  • I thought I was following this pretty well, then about 5:30 in, it all went tits up. Smoking a doob whilst trying to take it in wasn't really a good move on my part, lol.

  • The actual mechanics of earth's temperature aren't so simple.
It's a bit like expecting someone's foot in a hot bucket of water to heat up his head - a simple mechanical model will say it will, but the human body is a much more complex beast than is represented by a simple heat conduction model.

Your explanation of the basic effect is good, but you can guarantee the simplification will be misused to imply that CO2 is a major contributor to temperature despite it not necessarily being so.

Your explanation ignores atmospheric H20 which is more abundant than C02 (up to 4%) and is a much more significant 'greenhouse' gas than C02.

  • Well, he actually made it a little too simple. To explain the greenhouse effect, you also have to explain that a lot of the radiation escapes into space. So, the more CO2 in the atmosphere, the less radiation escapes into space, so you get a warming effect. If you assume that none of it escapes into space, then it wouldn't matter how much CO2 there is, because ALL the radiation would be converted to heat regardless of the CO2 level.

  • To the people who are getting flooded by the rising oceans, I'm sorry. I can't lower my carbon foot print. It just not possible.

But his whole point was CO2 is the carrier of heat... and he did not mention CO2 in the begining. I would say FAILED!

  • 700cm is not a frequency, it's a distance of measure.
