Proposed replacement of the veteran M109 paladin, equipped with highly advanced liquid propellants and totally automated howitzer turret the XM2001 become too overweight, overprized (25 mil) and complicated being cancelled in late 2002 in favour the much lighter NLOS. Worth to mention that the NLOS gun is in the verge of being cancelled also.
