    • @SlipperyWhenWet honestly I do not feel the sudden urge to arm myself and defend myself from... ahmm I have no fucking clue against whom I'd have to protect myself, it's not like I live in the worlds most hated country and people try to blow me up every day

  • In my view, the UK government runs a bit roughshod over its people. It seems to be an over-regulating, over-taxing monstrosity that is increasingly out of touch with its common folk. There is no balance whatsoever.

I would prefer live under a government that is slightly afraid of it's population.

Our 2nd Amendment gives us a mechanism to achieve a balance that is just not there in the UK.

So, while its sad that this many people die because of asshats with guns, I would not change it to be m More..

    • @wharris but the usa government is moving in the same direction as the uk gov and your guns dont make a bit of differences. btw in 2011 45.418 people in England and wales applied for a gun out of all of them only 163 where rejected so its hardly a gun ban people just dont wont them over here.

    • @HailToTheSkunk
Agree we are moving in that direction of a larger and more oppressive government.

What I find interesting is that while we move that direction, at the very same time, there has never been more restrictions on guns.

      Coincidence?

If the peoples of the UK are fine with a huge government, and no parity, that's fine. You can have that. However, I think that this serves to highlight a huge historical difference between Europeans and Americans.

    • @HailToTheSkunk very true, I am a gun owner in the UK. I hold a permit and have .22lr and a couple of shotguns under that permit. The thing is I rarely talk about them, I see them as a means to end much like any other tool, I never think of them as weapons to defend myself with. I have two perfectly good fists to do that. It is just a cultural difference, general people are not that interested in guns over here.

    • @Darxider

Kinda sad that you have to have permission (A license) to simply own a .22LR.

Good platform btw. I've had one since I've been 16.

BTW, I agree with you. I talk little of my guns normally as they are just tools.

However, my wife does not have my fists, so I gave her some additional "tools" to use while I am not home.

The media makes it sound like everyone in the US are gun fanatics. That is not the case. There are regular people here. Some have guns, some don't. And I More..

  • More people in America spend time in the outdoors.Majority of people in Britain hide behind their doors in fear of going out, especially in Cities and Large Towns.

Those US gun stats are 90% black on black drug on drug, poor on poor issues.
It has little to do with law abiding citizens who have firearms secured properly...
These ARE gun hunnting accidents but PETA isn't concerned about the animals in question

  • The U.S. doesn't make the top 37 countries in murders:

The Brits are right behind the states in crime... even though their population pales in comparison:

  • Nice cherry picked graph. It looks pretty, but doesn't show the 62 other countries many of which have total gun bans that are far ahead of the US in Murder rate. It also does not show which percentage of these homicides is classed as "justifiable", you know people who used the gun to protect their lives.

Source: The information from the UN. Read the data yourself, don't let some blogger summarize it for you.

    • @zyprezz

ITs not that high, the numbers, as always are fudged to serve an agenda..

Notice there are a few countries missing on there like Briton, France.. and a few others, who despite their strick gun laws, have much worse numbers than the US.

I could just as easily make the same chart, but only list countries that have HIGHER murder rates than the US, and say "look how good guns are"

Besides, the UK is a muslim country now, apples and oranges.

    • @The Black Orchestra
it's called freedom of speech and from my point of view guns should not be allowed in society since we don't live in a anarchy from my perspective the police, hunters, and marines should be the only people who were allowed to own a gun all your crazy "stand your gound" or "consealed carry" only promotes paranoia

  • over all...the uk is more violent... http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2013/jan/11/male-female-rape-statistics-graphic

A breakdown of the statistics, which were compiled into league tables by the Conservatives, revealed that violent crime in the UK had increased from 652,974 offences in 1998 to more than 1.15 million crimes in 2007.

It means there are over 2,000 crimes recorded per 100,000 population in the UK, making it the most violent place in Europe.

    • @buoymarker Now go compare what constitutes a "violent crime" in every country and redo this exercise. Oh wait, it'll show that you're wrong so don't.

      Posted Jan-13-2013 By

    • @BCAA I think his point, and I could be wrong, is that based off your violent crime data maybe a people who are far more violent than us should focus more on cleaning up their own house before lecturing the United States on what we should do with ours.

    Posted Jan-13-2013 By

    (3)

  • It came from a blog on the internet.....it MUST be true!

Apparently the idiot who put those stats together doesn't know the difference between "murder" and "justifiable homicide". He lumped is all together. The word "homicide" is NOT synonymous with the word "murder".

    Posted Jan-13-2013 By

    (3)

  • Fuck that!

There are over 315 million people in the US , the gun crime statistics are negligible at best , to the amount of firearms owners there here in the states.

Why punish 97 % of the gun owners in this country , for the stupidity of a tiny few.

Banning guns will do absolutely nothing to change these stats , it will stimulate them to rise.

It will however give the government a monopoly over deadly coercive force , and make all Americans subject to guaranteed absolute tyranny!
