Happy Birthday America

I know we are on shaky grounds

I know there are those who want to destroy what we stand for

I know you are , but an idea

I know you have triumphed

I know you are not perfect

I know I am a free man

I know many of son’s and daughters have defended you

I know many of husbands and wives have stood their ground for you

I know I am privileged to be born here

Thank you America for who you are , for what you stand for and for the country you are.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

  • I remember watching this in '69. I swelled up with old-fashioned American pride.

  • The under god part really does bother me though. The pledge is fine and I've always been a patriot, but under god is for a specific group, not for all.

I agree with that. Maybe it should be modified. I also recognize that this country was founded on Christian values, and I respect that too.

    • @EmrysM - We are for the most part parallel in our mind sets , our founding fathers where hard core God fearing men. Under God should not bother you , as long as you reside in this country.

    • @cajunmojo It isn't a moral killer for me so much as a principal disagreement.
I think the pledge is just fine, and the under god part was added well after the pledge became common place.

President Eisenhower chose to sign the bill into law on Flag Day, 1954. Eisenhower then said: "In this way we are reafirming the transcendence of religious faith in America's heritage and future. In this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which will forever be our country's most po More..

    • @EmrysM - Isn't that what makes this country great, the fact you can have your own beliefs and live a free man. Point taken, Happy 4th .

  • "Under God" contradicts "for all", because not everyone believes in this "God". If America is only for the Godly, a lot of people are going to feel left out. Maybe that's where it all started to go wrong.
