The FBI and Anchorage police released surveillance video of 18-year old Samantha Koenig being kidnapped from the Common Grounds coffee stand where she worked on the night of February 1, 2012. Her kidnapper, 34-year old Israel Keyes, would later sexually assault and strangle her hours later, before departing on a two week cruise.
After returning on Feb. 17, Keyes issued a $30,000 ransom demand, using a posed photo of her body to make her appear alive before dismembering it and dumping the remains in Matanuska Lake.
Keyes' usage of her stolen debit card led to his arrest in Texas in March, and while in jail he confessed to a further seven murders in Washington, New York and Vermont. The FBI, with the permission of Koenig's family, released details of the case after Keyes committed suicide on December 3rd by slitting his wrist and hanging himself in his jail cell.

4:00 - Koenig is forced to hand over the contents of the cash register
9:30-10:00 - Keyes ties up Koenig and forces her to walk across the street to his vehicle

It just hit me how videos like this capture someones seemingly normal uneventful day... @1:45 she has no idea that in fifteen seconds this event will change her life forever. As a spectator I feel kind of gross all of a sudden.... Seconds of the day are important. Regarding this murderer...If he had been placed naked in a cell with nothing in it, he could not have killed himself, but his rights would not allow that. And he should have rights, all of them, up until the moment he provides his first confession that was not under duress. But we provide him rights even after we know he killed at least 8 people. If anything defined the meaning of "stupidity", that has to be it.
