Bahrain has been undergoing an uprising since the toppling of Mubarak in Egypt, and has become violent after the king supressed the protests instead of making reforms. After over half the population took to the streets to demand reform to the absolute monarchy, the king responded with an iron fist by killing unarmed protesters and demolishing the Pearl Roundabout, which had become a symbol of the revolution. Saudi Arabia, wary of a revolution on its doorstep, sent in troops to help crush the uprising.
