Kalam Cosmological Argument

An interesting video discussing the scientific basis for the creation of the universe and how it doesn't necessarily conflict with the concept of a creating agent (ala God.)
Beware, it's slanted from a Theists point of view, however the science is accurate. It would still be an interesting watch for Atheists. Especially the ignorant ones who have no reason for their atheistic views other than it being trendy.

  • actually as a scientist and an atheist we now know thanks to string theory that our universe did not come from nothing but was the result of a collision between the dimensions. The dimensions very rarely touch each other but when they do massive amounts of energy are transfered thus creating a universe. Then we have the other major problem with this video, if they are infering the universe was created by some supreme being they have let the cat out of the basket and the next logical questions More..

"if they are infering the universe was created by some supreme being they have let the cat out of the basket and the next logical questions is who created the supreme being" You should maybe watch the video. This was explicitly addressed with a compelling counter argument. Taking the question, "who created the creator" begs the question, "who created the creator's creator", logically continuing on ad infinitum with the eventuality that at some point i More..

    • @Penguinister.. "..we now know thanks to string theory.."

String theory is that, just a theory. Man as of yet doesn't have a single test to promote the existent of strings. And the same goes for multi-dimensions.

  • Only in america, and some backwards 3rd world countries in africa and the middle east is it still valid to argue that a supreme being created the universe. the US is the only non 3rd world country that teach this drivel to children in school. In essence perpetuating the state of ignorance for another generation.

that right there pretty much says it all. the rest of the planet have moved on.
Or on an individual basis; we though the idea of god was cute, then we turned 6.

    • @JohnMcLane2008
      there is no dilemma.
humans have created religion. we have created all of them. chistianity isn't special. not by a long shot.
it just happens to be the predominant religon at the moment.

    • @Kasmackba yea no dilemma, like when the ostrich burries her head in the sand, it makes the danger disappear.

      I agree 100%.
religion has done that since day 1 in a futile attempt to supress logic, reason, exploration and science.
The perpetuation of ignorance is vital in order to maintain the status quo of religious nuttery.

  • Problem!

The Principle of Parsimony applies to the Cosmological Argument given here. Causation of the universe must come from an eternal being, they say, but you can remove that eternal being and just say the universe is eternal. Now, one might jump the gun and say the universe we know had a beginning, but what of the universe we don't know. That argument cuts away the unneeded part of there being a First Cause. Perhaps the universe itself is a necessary existent.

  • Bear with me on 1 question:

If the 'Big Bang' started at one point - the universe created, and the galaxys are expanding away from each other as this doco is stating.

Question: Why don't we just reverse the directions of the galaxys (as we know which way they are moving - which is now to humans basic science), to work out where they started from?

The LHC only looks for 'unknown' particles. Liek the Higgs. Even then they say that it is unlikely the LHC has the power to find the Higgs.
LHC power level 7 Tev. The Higgs, 14+ Tev.
With upgrades the LHC might do 12Tev but not till 2015.

  • Out of nothing - religion arises!

Wow! Huge assumption: the cause of the universe is beyond space and time! Wow! Huge bullshit jump there! Who ever said the "big bang" didn't happen before - maybe dozens of times before!

    B U L L S H I T from scaredy religio-nuts. First clue, the background music!
