I trained on the SMG when I first joined up...it was shit
The SLR (FN) one of the best weapons ever made

@bigcats SMG jammed all the time and had the accuracy of a spit ball. The SLR was a good bit of kit though except I always came off the range with a hamster cheek.

@bigcats lol yea, in basic one of the recruits tripped over and dropped his SMG and it promptly emptied its magazine fortunately down range. He still got charged..haha.

In 1984 I was trained on the SMG and SLR. That's some serious retention of a design. Then the 28O looks uncannily like an SA80. I guess what was designed in the 80's will come out in 2050.

i like the way the concept sa80 works fine 50 years ago when you throw it in sand but in 2003 in iraq is was a pain in the fucking ass

Nice rifle but not fully automatic. But there again, it was a powerful round.

If you look real close you can see a bit of german in every one of those new guns.

2012, and we STILL don't have a capable intermediate power cartridge, something in the 6.5 - 7mm range. The US scuppered the idea twice, once by insisting on the 7.62mm, the second time by insisting on the 5.56mm varmint round.

@Argh Agreed, actually the .280 was quite close to the "modern" 6.8 spc proposed today for m16 and M4 carbine.
