Hi all,

The time for us to upgrade to LiveLeak v2.0 is now very close at hand, in the coming days, so I thought it would be cool to let you know a little more about it as we get ready for the switch over. First of all you'll notice it doesn't look the same. It's more a refresh than a completely new design but it might take you a little while to find your way around. Here’s the most important part:

If you don't want to change the way you use LiveLeak then you don't have to!

You can carry on with the standard user channel watching and commenting as you please. You aren’t forced to do anything differently. If you want to do things differently you certainly can. Here are just a few features of the launch version of 2.0. We consider this to be the “core” site and from here we will continue to develop and release modules to expand the capabilities of LiveLeak and how you use it.

1) Embed YouTube videos as a new media post. You won't get points but if you find something you just want to share then go right ahead. We'll be adding more sites as we go giving you the opportunity to use LL as a media hub.

2) Customisable channels. Using a modular system you can add features to your own channel, arrange them however you please using a drag and drop system as well as adding backgrounds and changing the fonts.

3) Your media, your choice. Using the playlist and picked media modules you can have any media you like showing on any of your channels. Want to create your own version of LL with your own picked media? Go right ahead. Naturally you can share the URL of your channels wherever you wish.

4) Improved messaging system. A folder system gives you more control over your messages and sorts them into categories such as messages from users, system messages, and more.

5) Log in from Facebook or Twitter and link those accounts to your “root” account if you already have one (or register one through LiveLeak).

6) Create new channels as you need them. Groups are no longer with us but you can create channels suiting your interests. Again these are linked to your “root” account.

In the coming months we are going to release modules after development and testing so make sure you let us know what you would like to see on LiveLeak.

We really hope you guys dig it as much as we do. And remember, this is just the beginning.

    • The only way I think they could fix the search is to put the tags in themselves, instead of the uploader.

    • Yeah, this is probably one of the biggest gaps in Liveleak right now. The search function is worse than having no search function at all. If I want to find a post that I read a month ago, I have better luck doing an advanced search in Google, limiting the domain to liveleak.com, and searching for my term there, than I do entering the same search term into Liveleak's search box.

  • unless the bugs iron out (and I've found several in the last hour) I don't think I like V2 at all. Info missing, comments missing, page 2's (anything past page 1) doesn't work, back button throws up 'no channel exists'.

    Not Good.

    No obvious facility for returning to v1 (where is it?)

    I'm a firm believer of the maxim, it it ain't broke doin't try and fix it .....

    Why?

    • @thecleaner001 Well, LL was broke and that's why we had to fix it. It takes time to pull something like this off, it's not the same as launching a blog or something like that.

      There won't be a facility to return to v1.0 the two don't share a line of code for the most part.

      Give us some time to get it settled. Everything will be working just fine.

    • @wurstwurstwurst And you don't. You can still watch vids and comment without having to play with any of the other features. The navigation has changed, the look has changed, but the basic functionality and requirements to use it haven't.

  • Thanks for the update, Hayden. I hope the search function will also be improved. Right now, it's way too easy to make a repost as-is. I've actually found google searches to be more thorough than the LL search engine.

  • Does this mean there will be add's right on the video screen just like youtube? That would be a great way to make money. Anyone remember when youtube was simple and sorta like LL? Now it s as cluttered as my junk drawer in the kitchen.

  • When I see that facebook icon on websites it pisses me off. I really wish #5 wasn't happening. Facebook is the biggest pile of shit connected to the internet.

    • Probably so...I don't personally have use for Facebook either. A lot of people, though, do, and if it makes Liveleak easier to use for some people, it's fine to add the feature. As long as one isn't required to have a Facebook or Twitter account to log into Liveleak, the change doesn't affect me one way or another.
