hi rab, irish meself, belfast here,in my view i think its a form of child abuse imposing any religion on a child,we should wait till they are older then teach them about religions/god and let them make their own minds up,were all just born as human beings.

Hey Rab....If the right teachings are taught by the parents what Christianty is all about not extreme but the real meaning. God holds the parents responsible for at least trying to teach the God's love.
here is a good writing on that.......................
In God's eyes%u2014and in a small child's%u2014a parent stands in the place of God Himself. In the physical sense, parents are the child's creator, provider, lawgiver, teacher, and protector%u2014and sometimes even savior. A child's resp More..

Nice Post Rab... I'm from the US and here are my views on the subject you bring up.
You are better off questioning everything.
From infancy, Mother is the word for GOD in the hearts and minds of children. What they are taught is most often the path they beleive in. I think all relgion is guilty of this.
To publicly label yourself is potentially a harmful depending on where you live. Since religion polarizes and differentiates people against each other, I would rather not let anyone kno More..

It's immoral and a form of abuse to label a child before(s)he has a say in what path,if any, they travel.Would it be ok to label a baby as,say,a socialist/tory?

Religion is something that must be chosen personally. You wouldn't write 'Democrat' or 'Republican' on a child's birth certificate, and they have no way of analyzing how they feel about politics at that age, nor religion.
So I partially agree with techboy and misteron, but differ with them on the 'child abuse' allegation, with the exception of girls born into extreme religious patriarchal societies.
