Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu: "All options on table and containment not an option"

Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu stated his country's right to defend itself against the possible threat of a nuclear-armed Iran. He also said the world cannot wait much longer to take action against Tehran, during his meeting in Washington with President Obama and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) on Monday.

"Israel will always reserve the right to defend itself," Netanyahu said in his uncompromising speech about the possible Iranian nuclear program, "We are determined to prevent Iran developing nuclear weapons. We leave all options on the table and containment is not an option. The Jewish state will not allow those who seek Israel's destruction the means to achieve that goal. A nuclear-armed Iran must be stopped." he also told to media.

Netanyahu's visit to Washington D.C. comes amid speculation, in the press and in public statements by Israeli officials, that Israel is planning a military strike against nuclear facilities in Iran. Netanyahu told AIPAC that he would not talk about what Israel would or would not do, but reiterated that Israel would not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

Netanyahu also said: "As prime minister of Israel, I will never let my people live in the shadow of annihilation."

The Obama administration has not said whether it would support Israeli action against Iran, and in recent weeks has said it sees no evidence that Iran is building a nuclear weapon. James Clapper, the US director of national intelligence, testified before Congress in January that he believed Iran had not yet decided whether or not to build a bomb.

Obama said the United States "reserved all options" regarding Iran's nuclear programme, but wanted more time to pursue diplomacy.
International negotiations over Iran's nuclear programme have been stalled for more than a year, Israeli officials want Iran to completely suspend its uranium enrichment programme before the West resumes negotiations. However, the White House has apparently rejected that demand, which Iran would almost certainly refuse.

  • Everyone's getting sick and tired of Israel...

  • It's hard to justify Israel having nuclear arms while everyone else is forced to kowtow to their policy.

I don't want to see Iran with WMD but I also don't like that Israel is armed either. If Israel wants peace they should be willing to give up their nukes as well.

  • A country with nuclear weapons literally commiting war crimes playing the victim...

Iran should start demanding IAEA have access to Israels Dimona nuclear site and if Israel continues to decline threaten to bomb the site for the safety of the Iranian people.

  • I'm all for Israel doing what it wants to do to defend itself as long as it DOES NOT involve the US backing them up in any way, shape or form. If they're going to talk the big talk, then let them walk the walk ON THEIR OWN.

Would you be saying that if Iraq and Syria had been able to develop nukes and accidentally "lost" a few briefcase nukes that just happened to pop off on the eastern seaboard of the United States?

It's not that far-fetched of a scenario.Thank the Israeli's for not allowing the proliferation of true weapons of mass destruction into the hands of raving lunatics.

  • Wasn't the purpose of forming N.A.T.O. to prevent one country from unilaterally attacking another country? Oh, I forgot. They had to change the charter when Dubya invaded Iraq so I guess N.A.T.O. really has no purpose anymore.

  • A nuclear armed Iran should be stopped?.....I think a undeclared nuclear armed, racist, apartheid state should be stopped also!

  • Dose this mean Iran should bomb Israel first because Netanyahu is threatening to attack Iran?

    • @sok8888

Sometimes bad characters need an attitude adjustment....Iraq ring a bell?

When it comes to the Middle East though it's always like dealing with children, the way they act.The old "who started it" moniker, that in this case would probably fall on Iran.

People will only be threatened so much until they bite back and punch you in the beak.

I think Israel has had enough of the threats whether you agree with them or not.

    • @SSstormtr00per pretty biased view. iran doesn't have NUKES.
would you like to know the truth.
For years, the paranoid Israelis have been screaming bloody murder that the President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said that "Israel should be wiped from the map." Of course, the man said no such thing, it was a deliberate mis-translation meant to serve their purposes: to demonize Ahmadinejad and Iran and to justify an unprovoked attack against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

      So what did Ahma More..

    • @SSstormtr00per stop your lies who threatened who......But it's ironic. There was no fuss or screaming when Netanyahu actually told an interviewer that when Israel is done with them, there will be NO Lebanon on the new world map.

At a news conference in Switzerland, on the occasion of the building an Israeli railway there, the German newspaper Die Zeit interviewed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:

"Congratulations Mr. Netanyahu, my first question is that does the beginning of the More..

    • @Orwellian_Society

Because he wants to defend his country?

I dont see Isreal calling for the outright destruction of another country.

I do see Iran do that....often.

    • @Drenigma eh what was that 6 days ago then ????
      In reply, Netanyahu stated:

"Yes, and it is not a secret that it will happen with U.S.-Gulf support and that is why they have been warned, but before you ask, you have a look at the new map of the world and see that there is no nation with this name."

Given that the UN Security Council has listed 388 Israeli airspace violations by Israel against Lebanon, there is no doubt what Israel is planning regarding Lebanon............

    • @Drenigma
Really? He's not calling for the outright destruction of another country? How ironic cause that's exactly what they want to do to Iran, Lebanon, and we did their dirty work in Iraq and now Syria is being targetted.

  • "The world can't wait" The world isn't interested in fighting israel's wars but I can tell you one thing, China and Russia have already pledged a commitment against israel if they attack Iran.

    • @RoccoSantoro

Is that so? I'm still relatively young so I don't remember all the finite details, but it seems to me that Israel took on the Middle East before and won...twice.And nobody did shit. Also they knocked out reactors in Iraq and Syria(before becoming fully operational) and once again nobody did shit.

The sane world was probably lucky in both cases that those reactors were disabled just to mention.

The mid-east is comprised of over 15 countries in western asia and northern africa. I am unaware of israel taking on these countries. Perhaps you would be kind enough to educate me on these wars.
