Did the White House fudge the numbers on the Buffett Rule?

"With the executive system we didn't come up with 16%, we got 7%. And when we look at the teacher and the cop, we couldn't get 19%, we got 10% and finally when we got to our doctor not 23...16%. And if you will notice, that looks like tax fairness.
7,10,16,18. More income you have, higher your tax rate."

  • You can look at the tax both ways, either income tax only or total taxes on incomes. But you should definitely specify and it looks like some deception is going on here, just like Warren Buffets deception of his secretary's tax rate vs his. Then you have the failure of the common man to understand the tax system, which works to the advantage of the deceivers.

  • Numbers....... they can spin them any which way they want to tell what ever story they want. I'm not concerned with the percentage I pay verses the rich. Last year I paid 13% to Fed income tax. Romney 14%?? right?? Fair? HELL YEAH!!!! Cause my 13% was 11K, verses Romney's nearly 3 MIllion. I'm good with him paying 3 Million.

  • A "progressive" tax structure is a hallmark of a socialist government.

One notes that both "sides" shown here are using the words "tax fairness" as applied to varying rates of taxation based on income.

That ain't fairness, it's punishment for success.

    • "Fair" is a relative term.

In light of the fact that our government only acts on behalf of the wealthy it seems only "fair" to me that they should pay all the damned taxes to support it.

But to someone else "fair" would mean that since they are only 1% of the population they should only pay 1% of the taxes, even though they have, let's say 50% of all the money.

To use the word "fair" when talking about taxes is pure horse pucky.

    • @BenFranklin420 I can appreciate your opinion.

...however, redistribution of wealth will be always, in my opinion, wrong.

You assert percentages, whereas I speak only of dollars, and each and every one being taxed equally.

...and when one does examine the true percentages, your analogy falls further apart.

"pay 1% because they are 1%" ??? Strawman alert! The top 2% of earners in the USA pay over 70% of all the taxes.

"The government acts only on behalf of the wealthy"? More..

    • @Blech Who got bailed out? The billionaire bankers or the home buyers that got screwed(it all would have ended up in the same place anyway)? Who benefited from the Iraq War? Who benefited from the Solyndra scandal(and a thousand others like it)? When is the last time the government lifted a finger to put more money in the hands of the middle class(you might still be able to read about them in a history book)?

When the rich call for lower taxes, you call it "fair", when the worker More..

    • @Blech

You guys are only talking about the money that stays in the US and CAN be taxed.
Hong Kong banks manage about 150 million companies registered in the Cayman Islands and just over 100 million BVIs (British Virgin Islands). That's how the US 1% protect their assets from the tax man. Even Romney has few of those.
I don't see the middle class doing the same do you?

The US is going down hill fast and it's not capitalism that's bad, it's the monster it has become.

  • If you are expecting honesty from this WH you are delusional. obama and his cronies have only been honest on one issue in three years, and that was the Bush tax cuts two years ago.
