Catholic Charities Gets $2.9 Billion From US Govt Then Tries To Blackmail Them
Tax exempt and given HUGE amounts of money every year from the government, the Catholic church has no shame when it comes time to threaten the country with removal of the only positive aspect of their organization: the government funded Catholic Charities.
Tell them to fuck off. The money can go to expanding other charities to replace them.

LoL so the pedophile church is taking the high ground on morality? You know, my moms church saved up one million dollars to build a new church since they were in a very small loaner, and the Main Catholic church in Portland took their money to pay for their lawsuit for raping kids.
This catholic church shit needs to shut the fuck up. It would be a fine day indeed when they were all burnt to the ground with the priests and nuns in them. And I am coming from a place who knows these fucks. My old More..

so long as they get kids at a young enough age and shame them for enough years, soon enough the statute of limitations will prohibit his prosecution. by the time some poor kid finally steps forward, theres probably already been 15 years of alter boys in between. oh religion is so silly

It's worth noting that the federal government doesn't *give* the Catholic Church money. The Catholic Church runs hospitals, and Medicaid and Medicare patients use those hospitals, for which the federal government pays for services rendered, just as it would to any other hospital.
The Catholic Church is not holding the federal government hostage or blackmailing them or anything of the sort. Quite the opposite, the Catholic Church has always taken stances about how it will run its own charities More..

@buzzardist WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG The $2.9 billion is NOT from Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement.
The $2.9 billion goes directly to Catholic Charities from the Faith-Based Initiatives Office of the federal government. Does NO ONE commenting here actually research what they are saying before they make fools of themselves? Nope.

O.K., fine, but this is still payment for services that the federal government wants performed. The principle is still the same. The government is paying for a service.

And it's worth noting that Catholic Charities is just one group. There are over 40 Catholic groups filing suit here, and many are representing hospitals that do take Medicare and Medicaid, so my comment isn't that far off. Dolan makes no reference to Catholic Charities specifically, or to any $2.9 billion. Dolan was speaking much more broadly about Catholic charitable services. This $2.9 billion to Catholic Charities is the ax that Bashir chooses to grind in his very one-sided pan More..

"Congress shall make no law respecting (present day: concerning) an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."
That's pretty straightforward.
It would be easy to give religious organizations a waiver; it has been done before. Women who want access to birth control could then work for non-Catholic organizations, or just buy their own. Every other woman would have free access to federally funded recreational sex.
Anything else we taxpayers can get for yo More..

@hdadd Taxpayers? WTF are you talking about? We are talking about private insurance paying for birth control you nit wit.
Only thing the taxpayers are paying for is the $2.9 billion given to catholic charities by the Faith Based Initiatives office of the federal gov. Anything smart ass to say about THEM? No? Hypocrite.

@grunt The revised approach effectively removes all faith-based organizations -- not just houses of worship but also hospitals and universities -- from covering employees' contraception costs. The cost is passed on to the private insurance company. yet this is not good enough for the catholics.

Well, the Catholic Charities get the same exemptions that any other religious based org does, and it has provided care to all comers for 250 years.
How much does Obama's Black Racist church in Chicago get?
How about his buddies in the Nation of Islam?
How much do they pay in tax?
Does he really want to go there?
The Church has gotten out of the adoption field in mass and Illinois, because those states required they place kids with homosexuals.

It's nice to see the tolerance of the Left, isn't it? The party of compassion and the "common man" launches against a church. Wow, you're real bad asses.

@yorba Launches WHAT "against a church"? Insisting that all people have access to the health care they want? Who is the church to regulate what health care an individual should be able to access through their insurance company? And CONTRACEPTION no less....the moronic prohibition of the Catholic Church which 99% of their congregates ignore.

You ever see that million $ house his "Church" built for him to retire in? It's in a gated Community, with a Golf Course in the back yard. No shit.
They pay all the bills, and furnish it, and he gets it for nothing, and his Church doesn't have to pay a penny of tax on it, Federal, State, or Local.

They don't restrict access that a individual gets through "thier" Healthcare. Only what the Employer will pay for and provide. If they don't like it the employee can go work somewhere else, or buy their own plan out of pocket.
But the simple way to do it is for the Church to juststop giving it's employees healthcare and let them all go on Obamacare. It will be cheaper, and women who want to can go get their abortions paid for that way.

@grunt Actually it is a bit more problematic. They have been EXEMPTED from having to pay for contraception in their health plans. The INSURANCE companies will pay the cost for these exempted entities. But the church says NO...not good enough. We don't want the insurance company we choose to offer health coverage we do not approve of even though we won't be paying for it.

@mixer Let's talk about the most famous nun of all, the deceased Mother Theresa. She is responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths from AIDS due to her very emphatic ministry condemning the use of condoms in 3rd world countries. She was an evil with who taught the poor to remain poor because it was a blessing from God.

@gregsto I'm sure she also encouraged monogamy. So if the people listened when she condemned condoms, there would be no problem if they listened to her on the subject of monogamy also. It's just my opinion, don't get all bent outta shape.

@John Coleman Monogamy is neither here no there. Monogamous couples were not to use condoms...NO ONE was to EVER use one for ANY purpose whether it be STD or pregnancy prevention. She promoted no sex until marriage. All these things were the will of god and health did not enter into it.

The Catholic Church is the world's largest welfare organization, helping millions every year. Catholic teaching hospitals are the best in the world. Get into trouble and they will help you even if you are not Catholic. They do their best to do their assigned work.
Also, there's a lot of exaggerations in this vid.
