evocative scenes of hard working coal miners crawling about through dark and dangerous tunnels so as to get at the rich pickings of coal for which the nation hungered.. Modernisation of the industry began in earnest just after the War years and throughout the 1950's but it still remained a dangerous place to be especially when coal cutting was being undertaken. Good footage of the machinery being used underground - for those that like looking at such material! this was part of a set of films selling the Industry to young engineers and miners of the mid 1960's.
