Quoted comment by Schaller: all lies, you are just jealous of chinas success!
:) just kidding
Yep, they are very successful, especially in damaging their environment. So much for the Olympics being given to them to inspire them to clean up their act, all they did was compulsory close down business' while the games are on. :-)
Well done Jenva, what you say is spot on. It's important to note that much of the world has outsourced its manufacturing to China, and thus some the pollution has just moved from one place to another. Unfortunately the Chinese are notorious for being content in living in squalid conditions, and don't actually 'notice' filth as we do.
From the communist government's point of view, they are simply following the lead of the west, and view it as hypocritical when we point our fingers at them. They are right in this aspect, who are we to want to deny them their wealth?
Note also that much of Australia's recent success has been in exporting raw materials to China. Talk about a double edged sword!
I see that China has succesfully made it into the previously known "Industrial Age".....
Similar to what the European community managed only a hundred and fifty years ago...
All for a cheap TV....
Now it really is,.. EVERYONES Fault

BTW, my comment about the Chinese may be viewed as racist, but I've actually been to China, and can assure you it's accurate. That is the reason so many diseases originate from there. They live in conditions that make India look hygienic in comparison.

I agree with you Chock, China has discovered the "joy" of capitalism and money, this new growth now sees them in trying to mirror the likes of the USA or Japan. I do wonder too, that with such an enormous population, if life just isnt a little bit expendable in the quest to become an economic giant. I have a friend teaching in china, he is always telling me that China always looks like it should be run through a car wash.
Quoted comment by ston3pony: China leads the world in greenhouse gas emissions. Global warming alarmists never mention them though because they are part of not-America.

If you've never been to a third world country, it's impossible to grasp how low the value of human life can be. Certainly in India and China it is very low. In China I saw bodies floating in the Yangtze, which apart from being their sewerage disposal, is also their cemetery. This is a population that has lived through incredible hardships, not just in the 20th century, but the 19th, which was even worse for them.
Sidenote: much of China's 'cuisine' came from the 19th century, when people learnt to eat absolutely anything.
Whether you think the earth has enough resources to sustain a decent quality of each and every of the Chinese is unimportant, as they are going to try anyway. This is, and will continue to have profound effects on the world in the future.
Why people worry about the Muslims is beyond me. China is the greatest concern for the globe at this point in time for a number of reasons.
hey Jen. Interesting vid. I have been reading about this for awhile now
"In the past six years, infant birth defects in China have increased by an unprecedented 40%. This rise is being blamed on pollution from factories. Now green campaigners are taking on the multinationals.
"The untreated waste is pumped out secretly at night", states activist Wu Deng Ming, pointing at a water outlet leading from a factory into a river. "People living along the river have enlarged livers", claims one local. They suffer from: "loss of appetite or cancer and all sorts of terminal diseases". Although strong laws governing pollution exist, these are regularly flouted. "Some local officials give protection to polluters", claims Ma Jun. In an attempt to put pressure on polluters, campaigners are naming and shaming guilty companies online. "We let people know that this company, with such a popular brand, is violated waste water discharge standards". There are also signs that central government is taking the problem more seriously. "The state is very serious about environmental problems", states official Zhou Linbo. Some factories have been closed down. But strong resistance to change still exists. "Polluting factories hire hooligans to deal with people they believe will damage their reputation", claims Wu Deng Ming. Other companies threaten to relocate to Vietnam or Indonesia where; "we can still discharge more of less freely".

thanks, I wonder how many ppl are aware of what is happening there
Hi Sluggoo, its just mind boggling. I was reading about how some water supply to a large city was contaminated, and the Chinese government issued an earthquake warning to it's residents, so they could be evacuated, rather than telling the truth that there had been a major chemical spill. We all should be appalled and concerned at what is going on here.
