@ZyXEL Our jets did so (jas 39 gripen/griffin). Full afterburner almost straight up. The balcony and windows were shaking about 500 meters away from the jet.

@zenshiva The F-22's engines produce more thrust under normal operation than an F/A-18 Superhornet's afterburners can, thus giving it the ability to go supersonic without using afterburners(supercruise). Using afterburners the F-22's engines produce over 13,000lb more thust than the Superhornet is capable of(13,000lbf is same as the Superhornets dry thrust).
In layman's terms the F-22 Raptor is approaching twice as much thrust as an F-18 Superhornet.
