Jon Stewart got a bit of a surprise last week, as his coverage of the News of the World
scandal got his show banned in England. No, not because he went too far
attacking anyone– in fact his entire segment was about how “England is awesome“– but because he used Parliamentary footage in satire: a crime in the UK. Going through a list of things that aren‘t banned in the UK, he couldn’t help but ask: “who is the arbiter of what gets to go on the air in your country?”

was during the scandal, he asked, “who is that young go-getter that
seems to be 5-8 time zones behind everyone else?” He noted that the clip
was aired throughout the world, in such beacons of freedom as “Chad,
Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Yemen.” But England banned the clip.
“We were praising it!” Stewart shouted. “Are you not allowed to praise
England in England? Is it part of some sort of 1683 Edict of False
Modesty?”
Instead, he noted the actual reason for the ban: Parliamentary
footage could not be used in any satirical programming. Parliament could
be insulted as much as possible on a real news show, but praise on a
satirical show was illegal, he lamented. Meanwhile, the rest of British
programming included “gay orgies, live autopsies,” and a sausage
commercial that made Stewart remark “yes, I am thinking about being
raped by my breakfast.”

      There is very little restriction of the internet in the UK, but the news of the US government trying to take it over and censor ALL websites and Google and Yahoo's censorship in dictatorships is beyond belief.

      The US has far more censorship issues to sort out than the UK will ever have.

    • @thinkslaughter You do have an argument; your thesis (although I use that term lightly) is that the UK sucks. You continually post anti-British rhetoric and knock it at every opportunity. If your postings (along with your idiot cousin cocksquad) were just random, mutually exclusive posts, then you wouldn't get so much negative feedback.
