A little risky if you ask me, why not just snipe their brains from 30m away? i mean it's 99.99% secure shot, rather than going face to face with a gun.

The biggest initial problem with the Sacramento incident is using too small of a rifle caliber. The .223 round shattered the glass but wasn't able to do any damage to the hostage takers.
The hostage takers were taken out by a pre-positioned swat team in the back.
There would have been fewer casualties with a large caliber round or two snipers acting in coordination.
