Obama delivered the noontime speech from a high school in Arlington, Virginia.
Many conservatives over the past week had expressed a fear that the president's address would be used to push a partisan political agenda. In the text of the speech posted Monday on the White House Web site, however, Obama avoided any mention of controversial political initiatives. He repeatedly urged students to work hard and stay in school.
"No matter what you want to do with your life, I guarantee that you'll need an education to do it," he said.
"This isn't just important for your own life and your own future. What you make of your education will decide nothing less than the future of this country."

All those who are agianst this speech dropped out of school. Only people without a proper education or memory will attack this speech and call this far left agenda issue.

He had my attention until about 19 seconds in, when he started talking about the governments responsibility for setting high standards.
I had to pay a visit to the loo, but I think my stomach has settling down now. I just hate throwing up, don't you?

You mean the speech he changed AFTER he got busted trying to use CHILDREN to push his far left agenda? You mean THAT speech? Huh? He thinks we are as stupid as his followers. Wrong. I will enjoy his impeachment.

Classic indoctrination...Obama assumes a parental role...or, perhaps more of a big brother...

I dont care what he says. The federal government does not belong in such a personal aspect of our lives.Parents need to give their kids a speech about education. Not a president.

Visiting individual schools is different than addressing the nation's public schools en masse to kick off the school year.
I'd oppose any President who injects himself into the public school curriculum, regardless of party affiliation.
