Raleigh police officer charged with DWI

A Raleigh police officer is facing DWI charges after a colleague pulled him over the day after Christmas.

According
to court documents, an officer pulled over 43-year-old Greg Palczak,
who is also a Raleigh police officer, after he saw his car "strike a
curb" while driving on Lead Mine Road in Raleigh Monday just after 8
p.m.

The officer wrote that he noticed a strong smell of alcohol and that Palczak had blood shot eyes and slurred speech.

Sgt.
Palczak refused sobriety tests at the scene. He was later taken to the
police department where he blew a 0.14 during a breathalyzer test almost
an hour after being pulled over. The legal limit in the state is 0.08.

He was charged with driving while impaired and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 19.

Police
won't say if Palczak is still on duty, or on administrative leave.
Right now, it is unclear if the department has disciplined Palczak.

Palczak is assigned to the Special Operations Division.
