That's a Ural, still being made in Russia to the 1937 blueprints from BMW that they bought from the Germans before WWII. Almost identical bike called the Chang Jiang is still being made in China too.

My Grandfather had a 30's Ural. Fuckin beautiful bike to look at. He also had a 29 sunbeam and a Model T. I used to spent hours starring at the big red russian :-D

Unfortunately I was too young to have my voice heard when my Grandfather passed and both bikes have been given/loaned to friends of the family. I would love to get them back, or even go for good ride on them. My Pop spent years travelling back and forwards from the UK, collecting parts for the sunbeam and the Model T. The oldboy has been gone for 17 yrs now, but I reckon it would still feel like he was right there with me if I ever got the chance to ride his bikes.
