“It’s a whole level of proficiency that I
have not seen anywhere in the lower 48.
These guys are the best of the best; they not only practice STOL but
they live it. To fly anywhere in Alaska, you have to have impeccable
STOL technique,”

What's the aircraft type?
I *think* it's a Lycoming engine. Happy to be disabused.

@DEADBEEF The aircraft at the end is a much-modified Maule M-5.
It's running a Lycoming, as he said it was an O-360. Some used Continental engines, they but were an IO-360.
The Lycoming would weigh less.

That pilot is like a cat that must have used 8 lives in training.

Fucking beautiful!! Never seen so much ruder used before.
Can the stock frames even handle that kind of thing? The only frame I've checked out is a Cub and there was nothing exotic there. I'm guessing a butted chrome-moly frame kit (or variation thereof) is needed as a starting point?

Check out the video "Large rocks and tall props". Some of the same. Most guys in AK just go with the tundra tires. This guy went all out.
Remember, practice makes proficient. I couldn't do that. I'll stick with the lower 48.
