Divinyls Live 1984 - Elsie
Christina Amphlett (much respect) goes crazy in this 1984 performance for Rock 'N' Roll Tonite. The song "Elsie" appears on the Divinyls debut album "Desperate."

Cool band. Didn't know they had this style, only time I'd seen them was the "I Touch Myself" video.

I listen to practically everything, so I really liked I Touch Myself, she's so hot. But yeah, chick-rock has always been some of my absolute favorite. Unfortunately it's practically dead today. Heart? Women singing rock ballads, with electric guitar? When do you ever see that anymore? Shame... Fleetwood Mac. The Bangles... Tina Turner, Pat Benatar... Berlin. It just doesn't exist anymore.

The Pretenders first 2 albums were pure genius. Considering that Chrissie Hynde went from journalism- Creem magazine, where she interviewed a young Brian Eno about the size of his,ya'know- to writing the songs and fronting a band of The Pretenders energy...pretty incredible.
Siouxsie And The Banshees were pretty damn good early on as well, and I really get a feeling that S.S. was inspirational to The Divinyls.

It's kinda sad they're better known for I Touch Myself, but what red-blooded man doesn't like that video? Don't forget The Motels!

Oh, yeah Stereo Lab obviously. Vercua Salt... Damn forgot about them. Seether was epic. There was a lot of great girl-band stuff in the 90's actually. Cranberries. Sneaker Pimps were great. Phiona Apple when she wasn't running her mouth about politics. I'm listening to Concrete Blond at the moment, Joey, one of my favorite songs.
Beyonce was born in the wrong decade. Watch Cadillac Records. She played Etta James (top-3 female voice in recorded music history), and she nailed it.

Shame she flushed her gift down the toilet and can't finish a song today.

That was fucking awesome. She has a great voice, and the band as a whole were on it.

Awesome board here... memory lane of great bands with woman taking the lead.
If your taste runs into blues/rock, I HIGHLY recommend Susan Tedeschi. Major vocal prowess! She's played ACL and has toured and recorded with Double Trouble (covered Zep's "Rock and Roll"). Add in the fact that her husband is the incredible Derek Trucks (Allman Bros Band and the Derek Trucks band) and the talent just explodes on stage. Her double cd greatest hits is a good place to start.
Not so mush rock n More..

Annie Lennox is one of the greatest for sure. People don't know that there's actually great Scottish music, because people like Annie don't sing like Scottish people speak. She was great in Eyrythmics (sweet dreams).
