Safe Mode: On
Iran's Stealth Drone to Fly Soon

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran plans to test-fly an archetype of its radar-evading Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in May, a senior Iranian military commander said on Saturday.

Iranian Air force Commander Brigadier General Hassan Shahsafi announced that the test model of Iran's home-made radar-evading aircraft, named "Pehpad", will fly in the Iranian month of Khordad (May 22- June 21).

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a military parade here in Tehran on the occasion of Iran's Army Day, the General said that the test-fly of the first model of the drone would be carried out on May 24, adding that the test model has been built on a one-seventh scale.

The Iranian army's air, ground, and naval forces staged a large parade to display their latest military achievement and equipment today.

The parade was conducted in the presence of a number of senior Army commanders, ambassadors of foreign countries in Iran, ranking government officials and family members of war martyrs in the Mausoleum of the Founder of the Islamic Republic, the late Imam Khomeini, Saturday morning.

Asked about the underlying cause for calling off the Saturday air show, Shahsafi said, "Despite the fact that Air Force pilots and fighters were ready, we decided to cancel the air show due to dust and low visibility and clarity."

He reiterated that the Iranian Air Force is ready to stage the air show as soon as relevant orders are issued.

The Iranian Army Air Force was due to stage the largest air show in the history of the country today, but military commanders said this morning that the show was called off due to bad weather conditions.
