  • I think it's really cool that parrots can actually talk.

    • @lucidx1 Talking is only one of the great things about parrots, if you ever have a pet parrot you'll learn that they are amazing all around... Well except for the shit, it's very hard to house train birds, but you can teach them to perch in specific places and put newspaper under them.

    • @EmrysM
Maybe I'll consider one sometime in the future. I managed to house train my guinea pig (don't ask me how, even I'm not sure what worked) so maybe I'll have a bit of luck. I've been good with animals all my life. Do you have a recommendation for a website to do some further reading on parrots?

    • @lucidx1 Hell I just bought a bird and read a few books from the same pet store.
What I've found is that they are much like humans. If you try to spank them or w/e physical deterrance you prefer, they will develop a social preset which makes them respond to things they don't like with violence. If you give them things to do other than being pesky little lokis then you'll find they will prefer their own hobbies over trouble making.

No matter how you treat them, they will return the love you giv More..

    • @EmrysM Thanks very much, you make them sounds very appealing. I think a parrot is now a very likely option for me.
