Killer whales chase seals - time for the surfers to get out of the water
Orca is on the hunt again, this time after some seals. When the local surfers realise what is going on, some of them make their way out of the water. However, some decide to stay around and potentially get mistaken as a seal snack.

There is no single one orca atack on human in the wild. They have very big brains, they are very inteligent and social.

@zepter00 On September 9, 1972,[7] a Californian surfer named Hans Kretschmer reported being bitten by a killer whale at Point Sur; most maintain that this remains the only fairly well-documented instance of a wild orca biting a human.[8][9] His wounds required 100 stitches.[9]

@zepter00 Nevertheless, an accidental bite in the surf zone with poor water clarity could happen. Of course their echo location is great, but there would be a lot of white noise in big surf like that.

@edkemper All of these guys are on the way out the water when they see what is going on. The guy that ducks back under at the end is simply getting out the impact zone of the wave, otherwise they would be sitting further out away from the rocks. Surfing this kind of wave will mean they are experienced enough to avoid them (at least most of the time). As for the temperature they won't be numb at all. My wetsuit keeps me in the water for 3 to 4 hours in 5-6 celcius water without feeling cold.

In Cape Town, during our Summer, the Atlantic Coast water drops to about 11ºC, and we have rocks and 4-6m Great Whites to deal with lol
Waves are bigger and more hollow here too...so its all worth the ice-cream headache, and blood circulation problems in the hands and feet...
some days, my feet and toes swell so much i cant put on shoes

@Grope4luna Good point, they do look like seals. If something bad would have happened it would have been the Orcas that got the blame :(

It mus be a nice feeling to be a killer whale though. Imagine swimming into white shark turf and they all get super fucking scared off you.

This is my backyard and happens all the time, the orcas are merely trying to feed on the seals...the surfers just happened to be there....This shit tends to happen when you live in a bountiful ecosystem...

A killer whale wouldn't mistake a human for a seal. They are not sharks.
