i don't get why do these troops not have couple of snipers with them to support them, i uderstand the more lay down fire you have the more taliban keep their heads down, but one sniper can pin a whole company down!, somethings don't make sense.....

@Omniscient They typically do. Well, in a sense. We have at least one guy per squad that's a designated marksman- carries a scoped M14. Usually switches out with an M4 depending on the mission.

@Toobatheviking Out of curiosity: when you're under fire, how long does it take to actually spot individual enemy forces ? For a sniper/designated marksman to be effective, you need a visual on your enemy... I can imagine that in the heat of things, you don't have time to scan your surroundings in detail.

@Captain-Obvious We get training. Anyhow, go pace off 300-0800 meters and have a buddy wave to you from that far away. Then try to imagine hitting him with a rifle with shitty soviet iron sights. It's not that hard, most engagements in Afghanistan where I was took place at somewhere between 400-800 meters other than a few that were in rock throwing range

It's amazing to see these guys are calm and collect even when they're being fired on.
