The last flight of the Space Shuttle
(Sept 21st) Today in the skies above San Francisco flew a specially fitted 747 with Endeavor, the last Space Shuttle, on her back. This will be the last time we'll ever see this beautiful and amazing man made machine fly through our skies.
I witnessed the end of an era today, and the closing of an important chapter in man's quest for adventure in space. History happened.
I salute NASA and the fine work they still do on behalf of America and the world. Bravo!

Dito.
I grew up with the space shuttle program and was hooked very young, I was always fascinated and daydreamed about it as a boy. Seeing these last tributes makes it feel like a real loss.
Goodbye and thankyou Endeavor.

Yeah I've got a scrapbook somewhere I made of all newspaper cuttings about Columbia when I was 11 years old. Definitely the end of an amazing era. I think most people misunderstand the amount of effort that goes into these programs, and what their contribution to science and space research means to all of us. NASA, bring on the Flux Capacitor. I know you're working on it.

Shuttle launches are always spectacular which i've always liked watching.Just a shame this is its last ever flight.
I know funding has been cut,but have NASA got anything similar planned for the future?

@Zeb Who knows? Remember when Bush said we were going to send a man to Mars?

For you adrenaline junkies, the shuttle travelled a 5 miles per second. It was the ultimate ride.

So are we not going to space anymore? Or what's the deal with it being the last flight?

I saw it as it passed over the Los Angeles area.
The bird has roosted.
So much for the promises of the 50's and 60's when space would the new frontier.

It was pretty neat. I got to see it fly by the boatyard I work at after it passed Vandenburg on it's way to Malibu. The F-18's flying with really gave perspective to the scale of it all. They looked like flies next to it.
