Suffice to say the french didn't make many friends.
Today there is a German expression usually heard in the Ruhr area, the admonishment "Don't make any Fisimatenten", which goes back to that time. Apparently it is a malapropism of the French "Visitez ma tente", i.e. "visit my tent", often heard by German girls and strictly forbidden by their parents.
