The World Height and Freefall Speed Record Attempted by Felix Baumgartner

The Red Bull Stratos Mission: A mission to the edge of space, will attempt to transcend human limits that have existed for 50 years. Supported by a team of experts, Felix Baumgartner plans to ascend to 120,000ft (36,576 meters) in a stratosphere balloon and make a freefall jump rushing toward Earth at supersonic speeds before parachuting to the ground. His attempt to dare atmospheric limits holds the potential to provide valuable medical and scientific research data for future pioneers. Above all else... it's cool as shit ;)

Who is Felix Baumgartner?

The Record jump is planned for September 2012.

  • So much hate over this post. Quit bitching you school girls.

This shit is absolutely amazing and is what makes me proud to be a human. If only we would invest more in to our space program because that is truly what is interesting.

Kittinger will always be a legend no matter how high up we send people to free fall back to Earth...so relax. Not only was he the firs to accomplish such an amazing feet, he did it at a technologically inferior time in our history, suffered a couple mishaps, and sur More..

  • Where is the fucking jump video? Fuck this BS

    • @notluzn -The actual 120,000ft jump goes down in September. This was just the 70,500ft test of the pressure capsule he will ride to altitude.

  • This amounts to a fucking commercial. Terms of service violation.

    • @dirtbiker201 -A commercial? How so? I commercial would indicate that I have something to gain from posting it, and I don't. I'm just proud of a friend about to make history.

    • @PyneOil

Your title implies the video will include footage of his jump. You used the word "attempted", which means past tense. Then you post not one video, but two, and both are only to entice us to watch the event "when it happens", not after it happened.

Why not post video of the actual jump?

    • @dirtbiker201 -Because it hasn't happened yet. The attempt is on going. What, you think one wakes up in the morning and simply attempts a jump from 22 miles up? No, it takes months of training and preparation to accomplish this feat. The attempt started 8 months ago and will end with the final jump from altitude. That simple.

    • @PyneOil Eh, the first guy did it with heavy clothing, work gloves, and duct tape. I think more work went into the balloon.

    • @kajidono -Kittinger actually had a seal failure of his glove causing his hand to swell up to three time it's original size, however he was wearing a pressure suit. He is the older gentleman in the video. He was asked by Red Bull to be an adviser on this higher jump because of his knowledge and level of training. Without a pressure suit, the jumper would not survive the decent. Obviously Felix's suit is much more high tech and is not expected to fail in any way ;)

  • you fooled me with the dumb title!

    • @joseulise -The attempt started the first day Red Bull, Kittinger and Baumgartner undertook the task to jump. That's like saying Apollo 1-11 weren't attempts to land on the Moon, even though all were required to actually do it. Shall I add "Will Attempt" to it? Would that make you feel better?

  • i liked the previous record holder's jump better; it wasn't a promotion for a bull piss beverage, and it was done while Boards of Canada played in the background.

  • This didn't even show the jump or freefall. Totally sucked. This said more about REDBULL then it did the actual jump.

  • Still testing 4 years later.

Col. Kittinger is still the Man.
