A Crowd of 1,000 watched the final approach and landing of the C160 aircraft to the Ballenstedt airfield in Saxony-Anhalt, central Germany.
But what some plane spotters did not anticipate was that they would be coming within inches of the aircraft as it skimmed past them at high speed.
The pilot of the 31-ton Transall C-160 aircraft reported at the last moment that he couldn't see the start of the runway from his cockpit.
The pilot brought the aircraft down too soon and clipped the side road where plane spotters had gathered to take pictures and film. Some of the spotters where inches from death as the plane's wheels briefly touched the ground.
Some spectators commented that the Red Baron would be turning in his grave.

One bounce landing, not that bad.
Sitting in the flight path, braindead.

@CatEatDog Last time I checked, roads with trenches either side are not part of the runway.

@planesailing I dunno, that thing was not moving that fast, if I saw it coming right on me like that, I think I would have scrambled out of the flight path.. I dunno.. Hard to say without being there.

He used every bit of asphalt available LOL. To be fair though, that road a very close to the runway edge and I don't think anyone should be there

That was some serious pilot error! Somebody forgot to teach that moron what angle-of-attack means.

@BaiKya He set it down after bouncing over the road, that is not as bad as nose diving in the bounce.
Just stretching for a positive here!

@CatEatDog He's lucky his wheels where not broken off. Did you see the angle of that impact in the pictures?

@CatEatDog Me-thinks he was following his ILS too closely and not paying attention to other visual cues. I saw a pilot slam into an ILS station on the end of the runway doing the same thing.

@planesailing Considering it basically was a crash landing, he smoothed it out pretty good! :-)

@BaiKya I suspected ILS as soon as you mentioned it. Other than that, I have no idea what ILS is. Instrument Landing System?

This happened a couple of months ago. Ballenstedt is just a small airfield. The C160D landed here to be transferred to the museum in Wernigerode.

A good landing is one you walk away from.
That makes it a good landing - darwinists in the way are their problem would be like a bird strike but bigger jam splat

During that entire approach, he couldn't see the start of the runway?
Sounds like a load of pure bullshit to me.
