  • That's one of the most despicable things about zer-0:

His socialist ideals would make everyone's life miserable and far poorer.

And he had the gall to say, "The private sector is doing fine." and
    "You didn't build that."

He's waaaaay overdone. So completely entirely clueless about creating value. Looking forward to his being shipped back to kenya. Or some other shithole. He has not earned the right to be even remotely near the USA.

You don't think Wall street and private sector are the same do you?

Many people seem to think corporations are evil, and that Wall Street is the private sector, that all corporations are the size of General Electric.

In short, they lump together all imaginable corporations as being everything they hate as being the destroyers of the universe.

  • What a sad story. I can relate. I am in almost as bad shape but I am still in my home. I am working, but my wife isn't and we have more obligations than income.

Not that I blame Obama or any politician more than myself, but I just don't see things getting better. The economy should be in much better shape by now based on Obama's promises 4 years ago. I voted for Obama in 2008. I learned my lesson. Time for a change.

What evidence do you have that the economy should be better? What nation is currently on a better track? Are the European austerity measures helping their economies?

Things could be better, sure. But, they could also be a lot worse.

I agree and if obama is re-elected it WILL get a LOT worse. He's done fucking this Nation up. Bank on it. "Progress"??.... Hardly.

Obama promised it would be better. A LOT better. Re-read my original comment. If you need proof, go back and watch all of Obama's stump speeches from 2008.

  • It took from the founding of America until 1995 for the federal government to accumulate 5 trillion dollars of debt.

Under Obama, we have accumulated more than 5 trillion dollars of new debt in just over 3 years.

Amazingly, Obama has added more to the national debt than George W. Bush did during his entire 8 year term.

And let there be no mistake - George W. Bush was a wild spender. A fiscal conservative he most certainly was not.

But Barack Obama does not seem troubled by any of this.

If we dont get fiscally responsible and STOP wantonly spending money we dont have it wont matter who is elected. The first place to start is the out of control Entitlement Socialism spending. We cant get people back to work if you keep paying them to NOT WORK!

I do not disagree with you. However, welfare is a small part of the budget.

I also think we should eliminate food stamps and the school lunch program as well. There are better ways to deliver quality food to people that really need it.

Nope, just facts. I like facts. Opinions can be shady and twisted. But facts, those are solid.

In what ways have the federal government become more socialistic?

      Lowering payroll taxes?
Penalizing people who don't buy private health insurance?

      I wait...

Bailing out the private sector, using tax payer dollars to run ads promoting foodstamps and increases in welfare programs across the board. There are programs for illegals that the average American cant even qualify for(housing, medical, food, electricity..... the list is nauseating to say the least. Social programs for those TRULY in need and legal American Citiuzens I support. obamas move to Socialize this entire Nation and my childrens future I wont tolerate. Ever.

    • @nonconforme

You are talking about programs that existed before Obama even took office. We have had a mix of capitalism and socialism in our country since the founding of it. I do not believe, nor do I have any evidence of, Obama increasing the slide toward socialism.

There are over 1 million fewer government workers in this country now than 4 years ago. No other president has presided over a period of time where that has happened.

  • Hate to break it to you, but plumbing is the wrong industry to be in during a recession. From the skin of what is reported here, it doesn't look like the company was managed well. Where's the reserve? I consulted a construction firm last year who had enough reserves to cover expenses for the next 4 years with only 10% income.

I'm not saying that this situation isn't sad, but you can't blame Obama for making YOUR business fail, when YOU BUILT IT, managed it and allowed it to fail...

    Sorry... No More..

Ironically there is a "leak" in your feeble attempt to deflect from the subject matter. This has happened to EVERY industry across the board. NOT just Plumbing contractors. Nice try though.

    • @nonconforme of course it happened in every industry, but it's hardly Obama's fault.

      Posted Oct-26-2012 By

    • @ILovePickles

Maybe not entirely his fault that it started but without question that after 4 years its gotten worse across the board in the real world(private sector)

      Posted Oct-27-2012 By

      (0)

    • @nonconforme Well, yes and no. Industries change across the board during difficult economic times and yes there were companies that were forced to close due to lack of business. But, one can hardly expect the construction industry (as an example) to bounce back to where it was. New home sales are still slow because of the high inventory of pre-owned homes that have been foreclosed upon...

Long term, economic recovery is working but some are just not giving it enough time...

  • If you criticized the president using facts and not fantasy, you might win some credibility. The private sector has added jobs, the public sector has lost jobs. These are simple facts.

Ummmm....theres 24 million Americans who would adamantly disagree with you. If government jobs are on the decline it is only because we're broke from the Fed level down to your local town or city and there is no choice BUT to start laying off government workers. obama wants the Free Market and Private Sector gone which is why he and the Democrats are using tax payer dollars to push and promote food stamps for every American. It amazes me how you people absolutely refuse to own up to rea More..

the problem existed under a number of presidencies ...

i guess its the democrats who also cooked the books of those wall street giants...what a way to deflect responsibility!

so basically your saying 'wall street couldn't help themselves because they were forced to lend investors money to people who couldn't afford their repayments'

The low interest rates of the early 2000s may explain the growth of the housing bubble, but they don't explain the poor quality of these mortgages. For that we have to look to the government's distortion of the mortgage finance system through the Community Reinvestment Act and the government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs) Fannie Mae (nyse: FNM - news - people ) and Freddie Mac (nyse: FRE - news - people ).

so i guess the bush administration has no liability or blame in your perspective...wow!

In Australia our governments saw the destructive potential of allowing such predatory lending and prevented it, how America didn't forsee it is beyond me.

A massive welfare state which continues to keep growing bigger at the same time it collapses is not prosperity..
