Antakya (Turkey) Pro-Syria government mass demonstartion 01/09
Part of channel(s): Syria (current event)

People of Antakya (Antioch) in Turkey demonstrate against the imperialism attack against Syria. They disagree with the support of the FSA by Prime Minister Erdogan and the turkish government. They also condemned the setting up of bases on Turkey’s soil to train terrorists under the direct supervision of the US in order to support the FSA. The development came after revelations about the smuggling of arms to anti-government terrorist groups in Syria via the US Air Base in Incirlik in Southern Turkey sparked popular protests in the country.

A poll between May 5 and June 5 conducted by the "Center for Economic and Foreign Policy Studies" (EDAM), an Istanbul-based think-tank, showed that a majority of the Turkish people are against their country’s intervention in Syria. According to the poll, as much as 57% of the 1,500 participants in the survey expressed their opposition to the Turkish government’s
intervention in Syria’s internal affairs, and said they favored a diplomatic solution to the Syrian crisis. The poll representing a cross section of the urban and rural population above the age of 18. The cities which were included in the survey: Adana, Ankara, Antalya, Bursa, Diyarbakir, Manisa, Erzurum, Gaziantep, Istanbul, Izmir, Kayseri, Kirklareli, Konya, Içel, Samsun, Zonguldak, Denizli, Malatya.

    • @Brew Swillis Hey Borat! He was sent to jail because of a poem in the school books he read.. It was because the lack of freedom of speech! May he be back in jail again? I don't think so.. Half of the population of Turkey support him..

    • @ToyCar no its lie. erdogan's poem doesnt exist in any school book in turkey. and he's poem was related with islamic terrorism.

this isnt related with freedom of speech.

    • @patateskroket No, it is the truth. The poem belongs to Ziya Gokalp and published by Turkish Standards Institution (TSE). It's recommended to all students and teachers by the Ministry of National Education of Turkey. The book (Turk ve Turkluk) is based on the conversations of Romanos IV Diogenes (Emperor of Byzantine) and Alparslan (Emperor of Great Seljuq Empire). It isn't about terrorism. And his charge was related to freedom of speech since he read a poem which is perfectly legal and recommen More..

  • These are the Alewites in Turkey.. Whom else should they be against? Assad or FSA?
Imperialism is shit but what about despotism? You had to have balls of steel to speak against Assad in Syria.. You will disappear and treated "well" by Shabbiha as seen on many vids around..
So just leave this shit to themselves..

    • @ToyCar Thats what theyre saying,.... LEAVE THIS SHIT TO THEMSELVES.

No:Libyans, Palestinians, Egyptians, Afghanis, Pakistanis, Turcic, Lebanese... No training camps, no foreign money, DEFINATELY no No Fly Zone.

    • @ToyCar You make the usual wrong assumption about those "freedom fighters" in Syria. They don't have to have balls of steel. They only need to have blind faith to Islam. And voila, dying comes the next best thing for them, next to living. It's no courage, it's childish belief in virgin-filled afterlife.

    • @AwesomeCunt You missed the point. This isn't about fighters but the ordinary people. I don't know if you have been to Syria before but you feel the deep fear from Assad family wherever you go. You can see bashar and hafez assad's photos everywhere, even in the living rooms of ordinary people. If you open your mouth against Assad, 1/3 around you was a spy and that was the same ratio for you to be the next "well" treated.. Spies got promoted.

    • @ToyCar Well put points. But my argument still stands; Because afterlife is more important than real life, the decision to put yourself onto potentially fatal harms way is relatively easy, compared to atheists. These guys have blind faith to afterlife. So if they get killed, then they just go see allah and will get their consent from him. To them, there really is no "true" death.

If one understands that there is no afterlife, and then does the ultimate sacrifice, that takes some serio More..

  • To put things into perspective, turkish alawites represent 0.5% of Turkish population.

    • @Othman There is nothing bad in being critical, but now your just being blind to this information. Those who participated in survey were not alawites. You mess the protestors and survey participants with each other. You have an explanation why majority of the participants in survey opposed meddling in Syria? Are they all superundercoverexpertninjas, on a superdouper secret mission by Assad?

      Posted Sep-2-2012 By

      (0)

    • @Othman no, turkish alewite population is approximately 7 million, total turkey population is approximately 75 million.

but alawites doesnt have very strong politic power in turkey.

If that's your point of view, accepted. But maybe I learned my history lessons about US interventions. Maybe I don't like biased media news. Maybe I don't like fanatic religious dudes and their doctrine. Maybe I see Assad as the lesser of two evils. Maybe the above sums together, who knows :-) ?

  • There are both Alaouites and Alawites in Turkey. The western media do not understand the difference. The total population of Alaouties (with Alawites) is 25 millions. Alawites are Arab-Alouites and mostly live the cities near the Syrian border. But There are Kurdish, Turkish, Zaza Alaouites too who are living in whole Turkey. But for my opinion, The support for Syria can not be explained with just "secterian solidarity" In fact, pro-FSA demonstrations are organized by mostly radical is More..

it's all about islamic movement. if you be a muslim, than you dont like western civilization.
