  • Here is what you do to get those plants up and running...

Take 5 aspirins and crunch them to a powder....
Spread that powder in the pot and water it....

You'll find that the plant will come alive a lot quicker and nicer..

Now - I Honestly hope that works cuz I've never tried it... I just pulled that outta my ---- you know what!

    :))

That sun Flower is either really tall or you're really short girl..

    :))

  • Hi there my dear friend Kim.
Thank you for taking the time to do a "Garden Udpate Video"
You have a lot of good material to work with, i think that the compound/earth need to be moved/revolted, cause you know if the watermelons are growing fine there is no water problem, is more of the soil problem, maybe the Ph is right, but have too much fertilizer not yet disolved..
Anyway hope you enjoy your beautifull garden, have fun and maybe take some nice pics of the Humming birds!
    Love and re More..

  • Looks good really, where to start?

city water really isn't that bad, pool water on the other hand ;)

your herbs look great, but next year plant the basil next to the tomato, and remember, tomatoes are heavy feeders, don't be afraid to fertilize them once a week.

cilantro just doesn't seem to like heat, and needs to be planted heavily and often, when it goes to seed, that part is corriander, so decide which part you want and plant/harvest accordingly(if you can manage to grow enough , it make More..

  • Great vid Kimmy, Glad you updated us, your garden looks like mine did in the spring when it was hot and very dry. The solution was for it to rain, somehow the water on the leaves and the roots helps the plant a lot more than just the roots alone. Cheers, and don't mind the trolls, theyre mostly tweens and younger.

  • Lol, I'm guessing your dog is one of those gentle loving dogs that welcomes the squirrels over to visit. Kinda reminds me of this only with the squirrels:

And your cat is like, "Hey you squirrels. Keep it down, will ya? I'm napping!"

Maybe you ought to put out a big bucket of squirrel food at the back of your yard, K. Maybe they'd stuff themselves and stay out of the garden.

    • @marinemom LOL on both the dog and cat! My cat is to fat to do anything really.

Good suggestion on the squirrel food, I've thought about that a few times.

  • I live here in the Mid Atlantic too.I started planting my plants a little closer together than I used to.It has helped, but putting in a garden well was the ticket.Since I stopped using city water,my garden thrives.Another thing you can try is pick up a bale of hay and mulch around the bottoms of your plants,it'll help keep the ground a little cooler and help retain moisture.I could use some of that basil though.I have a crisper drawer full of tomatoes ready to can and my basil isn't ready yet.Vo More..

    • @echo4250 collect the leaves that fall from deciduous trees in the autumn keep them in sand delivery sacks for a year and there good from mulching and three years and its good as soil conditioner.

    • @anglosaxonwarlord I do collect the few that make their way into my yard, but I had all of the trees on my property taken down when I built my house. They were old and not healthy.I do mulch up and use all other garden waste though.

    • @echo4250 I have a ton of mulch down.... not sure that's it. My hubby has set up a system to water it ever morning before sunrise so it stays wet all day... thinking its the heat.

    • @echo4250 i go out every fall and collect as much as i can from the roads even asked the road cleaner once to dump a truck load in my garden allotment they are the best thing moisture retention and soil improving

    • @kmmouse When it gets brutal hot like it is this week I water 2x a day.Very early morning and again about 5pm.You don't want to water just before dark because wet plants harbor more disease. For the past 5 yrs or so I've been using a product called Rootblast.I helps develop a strong root system which also helps in the heat. It's a bit pricey but it works like magic.I was amazed at the results and have been using it ever since. It's not available locally, you can order from the company or QVC.

  • I'd say your soil is losing water too quickly, probably because of what the top surface has been laid on. There's little retention there and the plants and grasses aren't getting enough time to drink it. I bet if you made your own raised beds and frames with a good base your plants would do better.
