A man in Afghan army uniform has opened fire on US-led forces serving with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in the troubled southern Afghanistan, killing at least one soldier.


"An individual wearing an Afghan National Army uniform turned his weapon against coalition service members in southern Afghanistan today, killing one service member," International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement.

"The individual who opened fire was killed (Martyred) when coalition forces returned fire," the statement added.

The alliance did not provide further details regarding the soldiers' nationality or the exact location of the incident, saying, "It is ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities."

a roadside bomb struck a vehicle carrying U.S. troops in eastern Afghanistan, killing one American and wounding two, a Western official said. The bombing happened about 10 km (6 miles) south of an outpost in Paktia province, near the Pakistani border, the official said.
NATO's International Security Assistance Force initially reported three deaths from from an improvised explosive device Sunday, but later revised the toll to one. It did not identify the victim or nationality.
