Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi has invited the heads of the Arab community in Israel to meet him in Tripoli, the Nazareth-based al-Arab website reported Friday.
According to the report, which is based on a senior-ranking source, Gaddafi invited prominent figures in the Arab sector in Israel to visit his country and meet him for an update on Arab League decisions.
The report further stated that an invitation was forwarded to party representatives, heads of movements as well as religious leaders via Libyan Ambassador to Amman Muhammad Hassan al-Barguti.
The envoy invited them to travel to Libya via Jordan's capital and meet Libyan leaders including Gaddafi in order to discuss matters pertaining to Arab-Israelis and the Palestinians.
The website also reported that the Arab-Israeli figures intend on accepting the invitation and visit the North African country on April 23. The make-up of the delegation is being negotiated opposite the Libyan ambassador in Jordan.
According to Israeli law, citizens are not allowed to travel to enemy states without a special permit from the interior minister and those who decide to travel risk being indicted.
Knesset member Said Naffaa (Balad) was recently accused of contacting a foreign agent after visiting Syria. A Knesset committee decided not to grant him immunity.
