  • Such actions are necessary in war. The only shame we should face today is the fact that we didn't employ the full scale nuclear strike and obliterate Vietnam, North Korea, and China.

  • Nice to see this little recognised moment in American history posted. Both Johnson's foreign and domestic policys went down the tubes. Years later, when it became apparent that the incredible promise of a strong economy, great national wealth and an enlightened leadership, along with 50,000 American lives had been squandered, Johnson couldn't bring himself to seek a second term. A bitter end for an honorable man's career.

Grow some balls and face up to the fact that we are surrounded by enemies. They're not going to roll over and die through diplomacy. War is the sometimes the only way.

  • alleged? Bare with me here gentlemen, and i know its not wise to go by what Wikipedia says. But Last time I checked -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_of_Tonkin_Incident

In 1995, retired Vietnamese General Vo Nguyen Giap, meeting with former Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara, categorically denied that Vietnamese gunboats had attacked American destroyers on 4 August, while admitting to the attack on 2 August.[8
