Accidental causes of death in the USA: Firearms are #7, behind suffocation, fires and burns, and drowning.

There are so many interesting ways to die in America, that we felt it was just wrong to limit it to the most frequent causes, which are all boring diseases and infections and stuff. (Except in Alaska, where suicide generally makes it into the top ten.) You want to hear about the terrible calamities, the tragic consequences of an error in judgment or a general lack of coordination. Do we ever disappoint?

Deaths per year: 350

We can thank the farmers of America for the inclusion of this particular misfortune as a cause of death. Between corn-huskers and wheat-threshers, is it a wonder? The reason it is last on the list is that there just aren't enough people in farming these days. I

  • Outstanding facts there Bimmler! Sadly it will do nothing to convince the anti-gun activists since facts are something they tend to ignore. Thanks for the post. Voted

  • I'm going to start treating my anti-gun shitbag acquaintances who own cars the exact same way they treat me...

"How can you own a car?!!! Don't you know how many people get killed with cars every year?!!! You're a monster!!!"

  • I find it amusing how many anti-gun zealots don't even know CPR & first aid, don't know how to use a fire extinguisher (and don't own one either), haven't checked their smoke detector batteries, etc. They have a bizarre obsession with an almost impossibly small chance of being a victim of gun crime rather than taking some common sense precautions so they are prepared for more realistic risks in life.

    • @HowlingWilderness "Doesn't know how to use a fire extinguisher" I know there a LOT of idiots in america (especially the ones protesting) but even if they ARE that stupid, don't fire extinguishers have the instructions written on them?

  • Accidents happen.

Most of the criteria of anti-gun activists are based upon accidental death.

Murder is Murder. Does it really matter what a murderer uses to murder? It's still murder.

    • Well if you aren't a criminal gang-banger then your odds of being murdered by someone wielding a gun are almost nil.

    • Murders are done by criminals.
Criminals don't care about bans or laws. They will have guns no matter what laws you make.

2nd amendment is only for law-abiding citizens and their right to protect themselves.

Besides, guns is not the only way you can kill somebody. You can use knifes, swards, pikes, spears, hammer, or simply your fists.

If you ban guns, why not ban fists? Why not tie people's arms behind their back to make them more helpless in front of criminals?

    • What the rate of people dying from murder by gun because they didn't have a gun to protect themselvs with? That should be pretty much equal to the number of murders with guns. Put that in your statistics and ponder it!
