Yoursay response on a defense of Christianity
 Part of channel(s): Yoursay (promoted)

This is in response to Stephenvenus9's attack on Christianity and Christians who tell him he is going to hell (which, sadly, he deleted from LL about a day after posting it) and Vulpine's response to this that attempts to defend Christianity, found here: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=16e_1337998389.

I argue that Christians should not be so quick to jettison discussions of hell and sin in favor of love, kindness, mercy, and forgiveness. In Christianity, these are all part of the same message.

It's basically arguing over who's invisible friend is cooler...

  • I am putting my comments from Vulpine's video just in case you didn't see them. Why do people that supposedly hate and despise the subject and those same people keep returning to the subject that they want out of their lives? And the funniest thing is they are 90% of the time the ones starting the threads!! IMO, I believe deeeeeeeeep down they doubt their own belief and their own mortality that can end at anytime, as we see here on the main site in many many videos. So that nagging question dee More..

I say read it over and over again! you will keep learning and understanding more all the time. read the words in red...over and over again!! most beautiful book and words ever written. stay away from the liberal revised version. stay with original King James version.

The King James is a fine translation, but it's hardly original. I mean, Greek and Hebrew are original. Latin took over after that. In English, the King James version came after the Wycliffe version, the Tyndale version, the Coverdale version, the Great Bible, the Bishop's Bible, the Geneva Bible, the Douay-Rheims Bible, and many other partial translations. The King James version is an impressive translation, but it is still just a translation, and it is built on many of the transla More..

You also make the extremely limited argument of freewill; There cannot be any freewill if ultimately a deity has the last word (on absolutely everything). You're making a silly argument for "limited freedom of will". • I got about minute in, which is about as far as I get in on a Stephen Venus vid. Passive aggressiveness (as evidenced by your comments @ .50sec mark) is not love, kindness, mercy or forgiveness. You're ultimately Fish of a feather; blabble, blabble, listen to what I have to say about who-gives-a-fuck-crazy-pants-shit. (And if you don't think following only one book of teachings, religion-wise, nowadays isn't crazy-pants then I have a couple of bridges I like to talk to you about)

  • Good. thoughtful discussion of Heaven, Hell, love, sin, and choices. You realize, of course, that hardly one atheist chose to listen longer than a minute before making some excuse to write you off.

Despite his "Rant against Christians" Venus doesn't really know what he thinks. In a few of his vids, you can clearly see a cross hanging on the wall behind him.

    Cheers!

    • @john1054 - You know, one of the main problems with "Christians" is that they assume that they're the only one's with a right to claim they believe in God. You're not written off because of the atheism of others, you're written off because of small-mindedness of yourselves.

  • lol religious people taking the writings of people who lived in mud huts in the desert 2 thousand years ago, over science based fact through empirical testing, You know those myths like observable reality lol...

Grow up and pull your head out from your arse and stop the pathetic fairy tales. How the world keeps going with people like this who have no grasp on reality I really don't know.

Modern christians are not Christians. They never follow the teachings of Jesus but more like admire them -which makes them a fan of Jesus not a follower

Sadly, I tend to agree with this, at least in the United States. Most people are fans more than followers. Most people are looking for a feel-good experience instead of being willing to truly commit themselves. Were a few dozen heavily armed soldiers to walk into most American churches and demand everyone who doesn't believe in God to leave, I suspect that many churches would be lucky to have one or two people left.

As Ray Bradshaw put it in his Martian Chronicles: "They [the Martians] quit trying too hard to destroy everything, to humble everything. They blended religion and art and science because, at base, science is no more than an investigation of a miracle we can never explain, and art is an interpretation of that miracle. They never let science crush the aesthetic and the beautiful."

There is more in the world than empirical testing and observable science can hope to explain. More..

Too many ppl seem to have found the truth nowadays a bit like how it was back in the "dark ages"

The "dark ages" were much less about people claiming to have found truth than it was about people actively smashing up the political order in Europe with series of invasions. The remnant of learning that survived in most of Europe managed to do so, not surprisingly, in monasteries, which were centers of religious devotion.

In reality, too, those centuries were very lively and interesting culturally. The label "dark" was a very narrow view put on those ce More..

  • Perhaps you misunderstood the gist of what i was attempting to say in my YS...I agree pretty much with what you are saying in this YS of yours...God is Holy and judges sin...and if we follow Christ as Lord we should be Holy...that's what the Bible says, no doubt..however, we are living in an age of grace..that's what I was trying to emphasise...we all sin..I dont believe in sinless perfection..but there is love, forgiveness and grace abounding in Christ

Yes, I understood what you were saying, and I know that you were not denying the existence of sin and hell in the way that Stevenvenus9 was.

Honestly, I don't hear many (if any) Christians preaching just hell. The crackpots at Westboro Baptist do this, but they are basically one extended family calling themselves a church, and they probably would have been labeled heretics in ages past. Among Christians, though, whether in mainline Protestant churches, evangelical churches, or Cath More..

  • I only made it to 30 seconds. In defense of Steven, Christians say that to everyone who isn't in their corner. Where I live, there's a cheer group who shouts it every 6 hours in front of one of the local parishes. It's gotten so unwelcome that they've had to erect a barrier to stop the projectiles from hitting them.
