Fun Fact: The German name for the breed
Dachshund really stand for "badger dog." This breed has received a few
nicknames over the course of time because of its most notable feature,
which is the appearance of its body. The Dachshund has an elongated body
with short legs. This is what has given it the nicknames such as wiener
dog, doxie, hot dog and sausage dog. These dogs were developed to hunt
badgers.

A very faithful breed they be too.
I have a wired haired Dachshund crossed with a JRT - best dog I have ever owned to date.
Absolutey fearless and against anything. It has even 'hung itself' off the neck of a Neopolitan Mastiff (called Scooby) that he attacked - until it decided 'game over' and it shook it head and sent him a flying!
