Snipers shot and kill two bank robbers
Two bank robbers were shot by Portuguese police on Thursday after they held hostages for eight hours in a bank branch in central Lisbon, local media reported. The hostage drama in a European capital unaccustomed to violent crime ended when police snipers fired at the robbers after two hostages managed to escape from their captors inside the branch, the Lusa news agency reported.
A third hostage managed was released earlier. State RTP television showed one of the hostages rush out of the bank doors, and heavily armed police storming into the building shortly afterwards.
