DETROIT (WJBK) -- A Detroit mother is seeking justice for her
murdered son and his cousin. It's been almost seven months since their
bodies were discovered inside a burned out home on Detroit's west side. "I
just knew when they came to the door, their faces, I knew something was
... really bad," said Mia Reid. "My first thought was please don't let
it be my children." She was on a cruise when she got the devastating news. Her son, 24-year-old Charles Reid, and his cousin, 26-year-old Martez Norwood, had been murdered, shot inside a home on Westmoreland at Seven Mile that was then set on fire.
"The feeling inside is unexplainable. I do not wish it on my worst enemy," Reid told us.
Let alone her own family. Charles Reid's own father was murdered in 1993. In December, Mia Reid's niece, Demesha Hunt, and her cousin, Renisha Landers,
were found dead, stuffed in the trunk of a car on Promenade on
Detroit's east side. The cases are unrelated, but all of these murders
are unsolved. "They need people to come forward. We need people
to come forward. I need people to come forward," said Reid. "This person
that did this to our children, to my son, to my cousin's son, to my
niece, my sister's daughter, they are still out there." A family's grief is almost unbearable, but for Mia Reid, speaking out is her best hope of catching her son's killer.
some type of closure would help. I doubt if it takes the pain away. I
doubt if I'll ever feel the same, but it would definitely help knowing
that ... person that did something this horrible is off the streets,"
said Reid. Anyone with information on any of these cases is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. You can remain anonymous.
