Raw Footage of Destruction

A man on a big farm tractor, angry about his recent arrest for
resisting arrest and marijuana possession, was rolling across their
vehicles -- five marked cruisers, one unmarked car and a transport van.
By the time they ran outside, the tractor was down the driveway and out onto the road.
With their vehicles crushed, "We had nothing to pursue him with," said Chief Deputy Philip Brooks.
Thursday afternoon's incident ended when city police in Newport, the
county seat of the northern Vermont county, caught up with Roger Pion,
34, a short distance away.

No one was injured. At least two deputies had gone inside a few moments before after washing their vehicles, officials said.
"Nobody was hurt. That's the thing everybody's got to cherish," said Sheriff Kirk Martin.
Brooks said late Thursday afternoon it was uncertain what new charges
Pion would face. He said Pion was being held by the Vermont State
Police at their barracks in nearby Derby. A dispatcher there referred
questions to the sheriff's department.
Sheriffs said they did not know if Pion had a lawyer. A phone number for him could not be located.
Martin estimated damage to the vehicles at more than $300,000. Not
only were their roofs and hoods caved in, "the radios are ruined, the
radar detectors, the cages in the cars ... We're going to have to get
the jaws of life up here to pry the trunks open and see about the rifles
and shotguns," Martin said.
Brooks said the vehicles destroyed constituted more than half the
fleet of sheriff's cruisers in the rural county on the Canadian border.
Others were out on patrol at the time of the incident.
"It was a
massive tractor," Newport Express Publisher Ken Wells told the Free
Press. "It has four six-foot tandem wheels on the back. It was red. It
must be at least a 15-ton tractor."
"It's pretty much the biggest tractor you can get," Police Chief Seth DiSanto agreed.
The
suspect ditched the tractor about two miles from the crime scene and
then fled on foot before being apprehended, according to WCAX. He has
been turned over to the Vermont State Police.
Pion was previously
arrested on July 3 for marijuana possession and resisting arrest. His
court date had been set for next Tuesday.

I get the whole social injustice deal, I really do...but causing a half million dollars in damages for what would have turned out to be a fine of $250 bucks?
Funny as this story is to all of us (Cops too I'm sure), this guy really screwed the pooch. I just hope the judge in this case has a sense of humor, a trait not commonly found in judges by the way. The Judges paychecks come from taxes as well, and I doubt seriously if county employee in this small rural county is going to see mu More..

lol... they should let him free and apologize to him and the rest of the population for enforcing such a retarded law. at this point everyone knows pot laws in the US and elsewhere are completely bogus, yet the govts continue to play their stupid games in order to save-face and to keep the prison-industrial complex nice and financially plump.
pathetic.

@RottedK0ckMeat ..But, it's not the cops fault. It's the fucking legislature, and Congress, and the President and all those ASSHOLES in DC that are probably getting kickback money from the cartel as long as it's still illegal?!
Most cops nowadays, except for the less than 2 year rookies, are well aware that the 40 year War on Drugs ain't working and they need to legalize and regulate reefer. Tell it to Obama, dude!

It's still the law and destroying property owned by the public won't change a thing except his residence and his freedom. Yes, the law needs to change. So do many, many others. This won't make them change at all.

Hahaha. The hired thugs are finally starting to get theirs.
You keep locking people up for a plant, fighting your so-called 'war-on-drugs' the people are going to fight back. Doesn't look like such a one sided war anymore.
Legalize it. Tax it. Win-win. The potheads win, the state wins, and the cops win because they're lazy cunts and it would cut way back on their workload.

@pheenus Hey, Einstein, you're talking to the wrong people.
Do cops MAKE the laws? Fuck no.
Who does? YOUR legislators. YOUR Congress. YOUR President.
50% or more of Law Enforcement already knows that this War on Drugs is NOT working and has not worked for 30 years. Marijuana must be regulated and legalized.

@marv126 You must be one of those flag waving NTA nutjobs. Sure, I know, tractors don't destroy property, pissed off pot farmers destroy property. The problem here is pot heads getting hold of deadly tractors. There needs to be registration and a waiting period. Maybe he woulda just ate a bag of cheetos and forgot about the whole thing if he had to wait an hour after hitting the bong.
