(NBC) -- He's pushing 90, but Floridian David Baron has proven you're never too old to be a hero.
Baron was walking through the Gardens Mall in Palm Beach Gardens Wednesday evening when he saw three-year-old Morgan Scott trip over a flower display, grab onto the rubber railing of an escalator and start rising above the tile floor below.Advertisement
The little girl was too frightened to let go.
Baron dropped his bags, and despite having two artificial knees and one kidney, raced to Morgan, just in time.
"She was hanging on with one hand 20 feet above the floor when her got to her" said Donna Scott, Morgan's mother. "He probably saved her life."
Baron, a retiree from Westchester County, New York and a former Navy man, shakes off the hero label.
"I didn't think, I just did," he said.
"He's part of our family now," says Donna Scott. "He's a guardian angel, not just a guy who walks the mall
