SuccessTech Shooter's Father Says Teen Snapped

December 18, 2007CLEVELAND -- It's been more than two months since students ran from SuccessTech Academy as a teen opened fire inside the building.

Police said Asa Coon was responsible for the shooting spree. Two students and a teacher were wounded before Coon killed himself.

Paul Coon, Asa Coon's father, who lives in Tampa, Fla., shared his thoughts for the first time.

Coon talked with NewsChannel5's sister station in Tampa, Fla., and said he talked with his son about once a month.

He said he last saw him during a visit to Disney World in Florida a few months ago.

Coon said he believes his son, who was a state chess champion at the age of 10, snapped because he was bullied and beaten nearly every day at school.

More than two months after the shootings, Coon said that everything feels surreal and he wishes he had spent more time with his son.

    Not a monster?

Sorry dude, but when somebody "snaps" and goes on a shooting rampage, shooting innocent people, that qualifies as monster.

You see, that sort of thing just ruins whatever prior "non-monster" reputation he might have had.

Shooting innocent people is bad, mm-kay?

Right before he "snapped" he was punched in the face for absolutely no reason (other than being white). If schools aren't going to expel bullies, then don't be su More..

  • the kid was probably dealing with emotional and mental issues stemming from the divorce and then long term seperation of his parent/s, people today dont instill any morals in their children anymore. the end result is a child that doesnt know how to handle lifes big surprises.
