I want to learn how to weld aluminium! 2-6mm and heatsinks. Any tips on a good type or brand of welder to start with?
I can solder good, never touched a real torch/arc though.

It is always a pleasure to watch a craftsman work his craft.
Don't care if its finishing cement, or baking bread, or cutting in dovetail joints...

Mmmmm..... I can smell that tar from here.
I was listening to a comedy station on satellite radio today and Mitch Hedberg was on. He was joking about his past jobs and about halfway through he says " Oh yeah, and I also used to be a hot tar roofer...... I remember that day."
I had to laugh at that one... made me think of you.
Roofing will definitely separate the men from the boys in a hurry. We had a lot of "one-day-wonders" when I was doing it.
Nice work. Thanks for More..

@EventHorizon2012 lol, mitch hedberg, funny man. have you ever heard of the band 'USS'? (ubiquitous synergy seeker)... those boys were hot tar roofers at one point in their lives too. decent musicians as well imo

Oh, is that for protection from snow or something? (forgive my dumb questions, we don't have that here in Oz)

@GIXXARDR yup, snow and rain both. here I was just working on a front entranceway of a house, but the same process is used for complete roofs on larger buildings, as well as waterproofing all sorts of things. it's a very flexible and versatile material

Pretty cool. I've done a ton of roofing (more than I would prefer) and it's always been asphalt shingles. Interesting to see other methods. Good job!!

@kanns01 it happens man. you develop an extra strong sense of smell, and you can start to notice the different types of 'burning' smells, and you can differentiate what's normal, and when you're burning something you don't mean to burn. I've burned my hands so many times that it doesn't really bother me much anymore. I do wear one glove though, it gets hot on the hand without

Same with computers and electronics, they usually have a good smell warning, before the blue smoke that they operate off starts to come out ;)

@85cmorning Agree with that smell thing, I did welding for a few years and gas cutting with blowtorch etc so I know some different burning smells well also! and the hands harden up rather well with exposure.. I had man hands for a bit.
