  • ah...the smell of nostalgia...back when we had a glorious empire and india was our back garden. a time when you took a young lady boating along the thames river, and then stopped for cucumber sandwhiches and lashings of lemonade. rule brittania.

  • I was wondereing what it would have been like to be there at that time, would it have been better?, no comms of any sort, engines in their infancy, horrific mortality rates etc, but, as yet no world wars. For the well-off it was probably a relatively good life

  • Very interesting.
    What creeps me out is when I realize that every one in this film is dead.

    • D'ya know, w-h... I thought exactly the same thing! (strange!) Not because of any ghoulish reason... but because I used to walk up and down Ealing Broadway as a kid... and I find it absolutely amazing that... I can't think of the correct words, sorry... but... the history that literally, walked the paths that I had followed... were unknown, and now, beguiling, to me!

      t_c... knock it on the 'ead, mate! You'll make me all nostalgic'! I remember the days when I felt 'nostalgia'! lol... serio More..

    • wonder if this area is now a muslim enclave and hoisting a British flag in this area would get you clapsed in irons;

    • Your link is not about a British flag, and not even about an English one: proper St Georges flags don't carry English Defence League or any other logo in their centre.

    • i had the strangest feeling while walking around amsterdam. i could almost see the ss officers strutting around in their uniforms on the very same sidewalks.
      old cities are great.

    • My link has nothing to do with the British flag comment I made. The jihadi's have already stated the British flag is an abomination and insult.
      It needs to be changed

  • Excellent footage - London is one of my favorite cities. I thought the same thing, all these people are now dead. Life seemed so much simpler back then it seems.

  • Every now the clips on pathe news which has some amazing clips and well worth having a butchers.

    The one thing that makes me laugh is how many people say they were on the last tram to run in London - If all are to be believed then it must of had about 6000 seats :)

    thanks for the upload
