Vinton soldier dies in Afghanistan

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - The Army has announced the death in Afghanistan
of a Fort Hood soldier from Louisiana. A news release from the Texas
base on Monday said that 37-year-old Capt. Aaron D. Istre of Vinton,
La., died Saturday in Kabul, Afghanistan. The news release did not give
any details about Istre's death.

UPDATE

An American soldier serving with the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has been shot dead in eastern Afghanistan


The solider was shot and killed on Monday at a checkpoint in Paktika
province, by a member of the local Afghan police.



The ISAF confirmed the death of its service member but did not provide any information on the fate of the attacker.



The assault was the second shooting incident of the day in which
Afghan security forces killed their international partners in a
so-called "green on blue" attack.



Earlier in the day, two British soldiers were gunned down by an
Afghan soldier in front of the main gate of a US-run base in Lashkar Gah
city in Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province.
