There's nothing wrong with the cops actions. He uses restraints because the kid makes it necessary and in fact keeps them loose initially.
That kid is heading for a lot of trouble in life. His dumbfuck parents would do well to discipline him rather than filing for discovery on videos and putting them online after they show their son acting like an asshole.

@killbucket if the lights are off they cannot watch the kid and they are responsible for him.

He could be committing a suicide attempt whilst the light is out - then who gets sued by tearful parents for failure to honour their duty of care? Oh yeah, the cops...

Good work officer. He did not "lose his cool" as you say. He was protecting the dipshit kid. Suicide in jail is a big problem. Suppose the kid was arrested for something embarassing - like jerking off while looking at a picture of Obama and screaming "change me big boy!" He would want to turn off the lights to kill himself.

Normally you wouldn't get arrested for a minor traffic offence but I can see why this guy got arrested.
The first time he turned off the light he was being a punk. The second time he was being vindictive. When he managed to pull it off a third time it was hilarious. I'll pay that.

How about having the tazer probes attached to the light switch? A bit of lab rat experimenting could then take place.

Room should have the lightswitch on the other side of the wall where the prisoner can't access it. Architecture fail.

Loses his cool? Are you serious? That old timer Sgt. kept his cool, that's why he's a Sgt.! He also knows he's on audio video surveillance. The kid was a typical punk piece of shit. BUT, he didn't attack an Officer, so the response here was not only proportional, it was entirely PROFESSIONAL and reasonable.
In many other jurisdictions this young man would have been tazed and beaten into a pulp way before it got to the point we saw here.
By the way, Hog Tieing someone is completely different fr More..

YES, it was indeed professional.
Simpleton, let me try to explain to you. For the prisoner's SAFETY the light must be left on. Lights off, and they cannot see inside the detention room.
The Custody Officer(s) are directly, criminally and civilly responsible for the safety and well being of those in their custody.
Now, was it moronic to put the light switch INSIDE the detention room?, you're damned skippy it was: but it is done.
The kid was instructed to leave the light on, he More..

@Prakash123 If the kid was smart and adapted to america, he would have done that on purpose... I would have even called his woman a hoskie while the lights were off, if he hits you, you get paid.

@Kalazam Seriously. A lot of bad things can happen in the dark. That's why cells have lighting---protecting those incarcerated against mishaps

In order to be respected you need to respect the law, the kid didn't do it and the policeman never lost temper and did his job.

The light must stay on so that video surveillance can work. It protects both the police and the suspect. Police are responsible for kid's safety while in custody, and anything could be happening in the dark, such as a suicide attempt.

@killbucket here's the funny thing about jail cells, moron, the occupants do not get to make decisions about the decorating, that's the sole discretion of the landlords.
You want to decide when to shut off your lights? Don't get arrested.

I don't see any wrong doing by cop. They have to monitor the kid so he wont do anything to hurt himself.
