  • Good work officer. He did not "lose his cool" as you say. He was protecting the dipshit kid. Suicide in jail is a big problem. Suppose the kid was arrested for something embarassing - like jerking off while looking at a picture of Obama and screaming "change me big boy!" He would want to turn off the lights to kill himself.

Normally you wouldn't get arrested for a minor traffic offence but I can see why this guy got arrested.

The first time he turned off the light he was being a punk. The second time he was being vindictive. When he managed to pull it off a third time it was hilarious. I'll pay that.

  • Why is light switch inside cell/detention room?

    Posted Jan-20-2013 By

  • Room should have the lightswitch on the other side of the wall where the prisoner can't access it. Architecture fail.

  • Loses his cool? Are you serious? That old timer Sgt. kept his cool, that's why he's a Sgt.! He also knows he's on audio video surveillance. The kid was a typical punk piece of shit. BUT, he didn't attack an Officer, so the response here was not only proportional, it was entirely PROFESSIONAL and reasonable.

In many other jurisdictions this young man would have been tazed and beaten into a pulp way before it got to the point we saw here.

By the way, Hog Tieing someone is completely different fr More..

      YES, it was indeed professional.

Simpleton, let me try to explain to you. For the prisoner's SAFETY the light must be left on. Lights off, and they cannot see inside the detention room.

The Custody Officer(s) are directly, criminally and civilly responsible for the safety and well being of those in their custody.

Now, was it moronic to put the light switch INSIDE the detention room?, you're damned skippy it was: but it is done.

The kid was instructed to leave the light on, he More..

  • Keep the lights out---smack him upside the head---turn the lights on. repeat as necessary.

    • @Prakash123 Yeah that's what I was thinking. No reason for him not to have a few bruises when the lights come back on.

    • @Prakash123 If the kid was smart and adapted to america, he would have done that on purpose... I would have even called his woman a hoskie while the lights were off, if he hits you, you get paid.

    • @Kalazam Seriously. A lot of bad things can happen in the dark. That's why cells have lighting---protecting those incarcerated against mishaps

  • In order to be respected you need to respect the law, the kid didn't do it and the policeman never lost temper and did his job.

  • I don't see any wrong doing by cop. They have to monitor the kid so he wont do anything to hurt himself.

  • a light switch inside the cell? then they get pissy when he uses it?

can you open the door from the inside as well?

  • Ha Ha!! That was pretty funny. Unless the cop has absolutely no sense of humour, then he'd probably find it amusing too...but most cops don't have any sense of humour.

  • The kid was was in a holding room pending processing. He probably still had items in his posession that would later be confiscated. No belts or shoelaces allowed. When arrested you are automatically considered a suicide risk.

Turning off the lights raised a few flags. The officers were only attempting to prevent a possible suicide attempt. I wonder if the kid realized how seriously he was screwing with them? He probably wasn't aware of why the light absolutely had to stay on during his processi More..

  • LoL! Kudos to the cop for keeping his cool & not kicking the shit out of the little prick!!! The kid was very persistent in trying to annoy & irritate the cop but the cop was very professional & the kid should be thankful, as another cop might not have been so cool.

  • Why is there a light switch in the cell? Why do they have access to it?

    Posted Jan-20-2013 By

    • @NoDifferent
I dont think that's a proper cell, that's why. Propably a regular room, which can be used as a detaining room for a few minutes. Or all the regular cells are taken.. could be anything.

    • @SchutzFi Temporary or not, it looks like a cell to me with a simple bench and a bar in the wall to lock them too. The lightswitch shouldn't be inside.

  • That was pretty funny. Kid just wanted the light out. Bad design anyway - light switch should be outside the room.

But not by a law enforcement officer, and not under these circumstances would it have been justified.

This Sgt. was the very epitome of Professional, kudos to him.
