this is beyond state-of-the-art, this is near science-fiction .. it's incredible technology by an amazing agency who obviously have employed the best and brightest technicians and scientists. this will be the feat of all feats. I'm so glad that I've been able to witness so much fantastic space exploration - good work NASA.

Freakin' exciting. I've been waiting and will darned sure be tuned in to NASA TV. This rover is nuclear powered and as big and heavy as a compact car. It has much better optics and data rate than other rovers.
We have to learn how to land softly and safely on Mars. This is a Big Step toward colonization.

I love NASA. Take an incredibly complex problem and develop a solution.
My concern lies in the significant breakaway with what works in life: KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid).

@chauncie Due to the weight of this one compared to the other things we've sent they had no choice. Can't use a full parachute because the atmosphere is too thin and the padded bubble landing they used last time won't work because of the weight.

@Roach1983
It's the quantity of retro rockets, a sky crane , exact timing.....all working in perfect harmony....that makes me wince.
I love an ingenious solution for the "impossible".....though this looks like a stretch (and an awful lot of wealth on a crap shot....and I'm a fan of our once great space program)

@chauncie I'm curious if they can pull it off too, apparently the sky crane idea isn't a new one though. They use it a lot from choppers to move machinery in places like Alaska.
I'm assuming they would have redundancies built in but that would probably add a lot more weight to it.

if the rover is coming down 20 meters the tether has to be longer than 21 feet
